An Invitation

A top headline last week in the New York Times was “Donald Trump is Elected President in Stunning Repudiation of the Establishment.” Like Mr. Trump, we support an end to establishment politics, establishment government, establishment business and establishment culture, and we stand in this with the majority of our culture, in both political parties.

We are many, those who are done with the status quo. And in the end, there is no leader who can be the change we want to see. As the 49-year-old pilot from Florida said today in The Times: “I think the future of our country is about each one of us, not one person in charge.”

Successful movements ask us to transform ourselves.

And in all of world history, there has rarely been a clearer invitation to become aware of our blind spots and bring our world to a tipping point in favor of beauty and bounty than that which we received on November 8.

In the words of the elders of the Arizona Hopi Nation:

“You have been telling people that this is the eleventh hour.
Now you must go back and tell people that this is the hour!
And there are things to be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your Garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to yourself.
And not look outside of yourself for a leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing very fast.
It is so great and fast that there are those who will be afraid.
They will hold on to the shore.
They will feel that they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.
Know that the river has its destination.
The elders say that we must let go of the shore,
push off into the middle of the river,
keep our eyes open,
and our heads above the water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time we are to take nothing personally,
least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do,
our spiritual growth comes to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones that we have been waiting for.”

Game on.

It’s for a turning point such as this that the Center for a New Mainstream emerged. This new non-profit joins groups like the Center for a New American Dream, the Greater Good Science Center, Irrational Labs and what Blessed Unrest author and Smith & Hawken founder Paul Hawken has determined is some *1 million* organizations working to bring about the New Mainstream that many of us (more every day) long to inhabit and pass on.

It’s worth our attention, this undertaking.

The Center integrates the ideals of those on the leading edge of stakeholders like feminists, academia, the health-and-healing industry, the science-and-spirituality dichotomy, the millennials, Gen Z, senior citizens, all races and nationalities, and the countless schools, businesses, organizations, communities, and hearts where revolution is stirring.

So if you want to push off into the middle of that river, like the Center for a New Mainstream’s Facebook page and sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of anewmainstream.com. We’ll be in touch about programs we’re offering and other ways you can get involved.

Don’t let the lasting takeaway from last week’s events be disillusionment or disenfranchisement. This is our invitation, our portal. Let’s take the ride.
